Painting over hate with love

We pulled up to hate,

and painted it over with love…

We arrived last weekend to find someone had sprayed painted a puzzling message on the courtyard where we hold Street Church…

9.25

F*ck Jason Aldean

BLM

It was really puzzling, and I had to ask folks who the dude was and figure out that 92.5 is the local country station and that it seems the anger was over a song he sings
”try that in a small town”.

The song is not a call to “hug it out”, but is as close to a call to war between the “good old boys in the small town with his grandaddy’s shotgun” and the lawless ones they implicate are only in the city who sucker punch old ladies, carjack women, and spit on police.

The whole message is the exact opposite of what God asked of me when I planted The Street Church…."tear down every divide between class and race between believers and come to this spot and worship me together as my children.”

So we all covered up the hate with love as we chalked over it all with verses and flowers and mercy…

and one of our folks turned the 9.25 into Romans 9:25 which reads…

As indeed he says in Hosea,

“Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’

and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”

Romans 9:25

Street Church Worship

Hello family,

My family learned early on that when “things” happen right before ministry starts, it’s going to be a good day! This was  the case last Saturday when we pulled up to some cussin’ and fussin’ painted on the courtyard.

We were quick not to throw stones but prayed over site,  and for those who left it, and those to whom it was targeted… and as is the case when you fight evil with good the lovely happens.

Julia blessed us with her obedience to the Holy Spirit and shared her testimony with us all. Folks were hanging on her words all around the gathered circle. Deep testifies to deep.

“Who do YOU say that I am?”… and her redeemed self testified to the Christ. She gave a call to prayer and as people gathered I saw the face of “Tank” and knew he was going to say yes if asked. So we baptized our first Tank, and the family went nuts!

Jessica is in her new apartment and Maloree tried to help a man follow the necessary path to getting a place of his own. She has done the work herself and knows the system well. A great day and a great team

Blessings to you all,
