Rain, snow, sleet, shine... or parades!

“come back, and walk with us again”….

and don’t bring green beer

Each year people get a little antsy when Hartford holds its’ annual Saint Patrick’s Day Parade. Yes, they close off Main Street, and yes the parade passes right in front of City Hall where we meet…

But we still show up with lunch and with communion because that is what our friends know us for…so be bring one table, one sign, three boxes of lunches, and the altar box.

and still, our phones blow up with people telling us the parade is on and asking us what we are going to do…

“we are going to show up like we always do…besides, Saint Patrick went the the pagans and preached the Gospel to them in word and deed in their own villages, right? Sure, it may be a small inconvenience to get around traffic  but that’s nothing compared to what Patrick endured! “

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete,

not lacking anything.

  • Service (from Kenny)

We had a blast down at City Hall for Saint Patrick's Day. Joy and I packed 50 lunches at the storage unit. Louise's friend dropped off sandwiches that the youth made at their church, Bethany Covenant, that morning. Joy and I were able to pray together and she received a phone call only FIVE MINUTES later with an answer to a very big and complicated prayer. YEAH GOD!

I drove the truck downtown and parked at the Convention Center. I wheeled up the wagon with 3 bins of lunches, the altar bin (with readings and string bags), a table and the Street Church sign. We set up on the City Hall space we are normally at. It was packed for the parade, and we danced as bagpipes and music kept coming by. A lot of Street Church regulars popped through (Liz, Eric, mamma with little baby Michael, Bobby). Not to mention almost all of the leaders were there too! It was like the Street Church All-Star team. We also had a few new people come through (I remember a woman named Vanessa). It was cool to see who the Lord brought.

We prayed over folks, handed out the lunches, readings and communion. It was a fun time bonding and hanging out with everyone. We had a new family show up from 180 Life and they enjoyed it even though it was a bit different.

I unloaded at U-Haul before heading into work. A great day had by all!

Community Church updates!

Some days are very quiet in the Community Churches, other days are not. We had both this past week.

The quiet day we sang and sang and sang, some joined others not, but after prayers everyone wanted communion.

River Ridge was the other extreme. We had so many new folks that we took a full twenty minutes introducing new folks…and the Spirit was among us. As I was packing up a new friend who happened to be a 93 yo woman who grew up on a farm in the North Country walked up to me…

“you are the most unique blend of Episcopalian and Pentecostal I have ever seen!”

I thanked her for her compliment.
