From Death to Life

“Last week I tried to take my life…

this week I want to give it”

My devotional reading this morning had me reflecting on the community gathered in Corinth and It struck me how The Street Church lives with many of the same struggles of they had. The church was right in the epicenter of Pagan worship, so most of those who first came into the church were coming out of a lifestyle most suburbanites only see when they binge-watch tv.

When we welcome into the family former felons, recovered and active drug users, the down and out and run-over, we expect the transition to far from perfect. That is why God gave the gift of the Holy Spirit….so we can give them the same grace we had when we were brought into the family (Romans 15:7).

I’ll let Kenny tell the story below, but this past weekend we heard testimony from a friend who had tried to take his life offer it to Jesus, baptized a “woman at the well”, and a former “cellie” (fellow inmate) of one of our regular guys.

This church is NOT scary! It is beautiful. You need to experience it.,

Street Church Worship

A great day downtown started with a great day at storage. Panda and Mckayla brought 25 packed lunches, we used the 17 packed lunches we already had, and Tim brought 25 more sandwiches. Bryan grabbed all of the underwear last night - what a champ!

We had a solid crew to help downtown. Laurel brought her sister Jann for the first time. She was amazed at how happy and thankful everyone was throughout the day. Arthur was there, as was Panda, Mckayla, and Anniyah (Natalie's granddaughter). The 3 of them did a great job serving coffee!

So many movements of God today. Jeff brought Rick, his former cell-mate 13 years ago, who gave testimony to how Jesus saved him in the prisons and beyond, and he wanted to get baptized, so we did! Jessica also got baptized! Praise the Lord of his work. Chris gave his testimony of almost dying a few weeks ago via overdose, and how the Lord has been meeting him ever since. He was baptized at Vox in Hartford on Sunday!

Cynthia gave a wonderful sermon on Jesus calming the storm. People were engaged throughout it all.

We also helped a woman named Sharon who said she stumbled upon us last week by accident. She was there with a portable washing machine living out of her car. He hung her clothes up to dry on a makeshift clothesline between her car and the bus sign. She also had a changing tent/box that she erected on the grass. She's very nice and I hope comes back next week.

Blessings,

Kenny

Community Church updates!

“Street Church” is committed to preparing the Lord’s Table in the presence of those who are not yet seated or cannot come in the local church. Bryan and others meet monthly with each community to sing, pray, share the Word, and celebrate communion with residents, family, and staff who have to work weekends. These services are Sprit-filled indeed! Numbers vary, but worship with around 100 total…a truly vibrant body. Pray for us!

We prayed and prayed on what to call our work with the widows as “Street Church” didn’t fit and they feel “homeless” as it is. God had us land on using the name of their community and add it to “community church” as this is not a “religious service with Pastor Bryan” as the signs always read, but a gathering of the believers who live there. Since they are part of the greater Street Church family, it is fitting that you are aware of your “relatives” at;
