God Gives You A New Name!

The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow. You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD's hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate.

Isaiah 62:1

As indeed he says in Hosea, “Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’ and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’”

Romans 9:25

…”fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son”…

(Dean Wormer to Flounder in Animal House)

When I was in high school, one of the captains on the lacrosse team nicknamed me Flounder. I started overweight as a freshman and was really poor student but my drinking career had not yet gone into full swing.

I glad that Jesus made his followers fishers of men…and that those who followed them saw me for who I was. Stick and stones leave marks, but so do words…

Thankfully, my God who was pelted and beaten gave me a new name… and you can too….Beloved…

Service

Hey family!

Super beautiful day downtown! We had LOTS of help loading up at storage this week thanks to the team from 180 Life Church so we were downtown ON TIME! God does do miracles. It’s not that we do not value the time of folks helping out but the number of variables of pulling this together each week are unimaginable.

Joy made yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit for everyone before the service started and they went like, well, hot cakes but it was yogurt…even better.

We had many first timers helping us out and it’s always an absolute joy to watch someone experience Street Church for the first time! I preached on “eternity life” and how it is the now-life AND the forever-life. All (ish) of the benefits of our future life are within us as Jesus is within us… the Sabbath Rest is in us now.

We had the usual “who are you and what is this” folks stopping by, and Curtis became the MC like a wedding singer…which is theologically sound and appropriate for a church!

The prayers were long-lasting again and the circle was filled with God. As we closed and asked where God was and what God did one first-time lady shared she had asked a person his name and gave him hers and later on he called HER by name! “I can’t believe he remembered me!”

..from the Community Churches…

“Yes, please do come!!!”

I was sent a text from the assisted living director at Brookdale confirming our service on Friday and she let me know they still had no director for Clairebridge (the memory care unit). “I don’t know when you meet there but I wanted you to know”

I told her it was today in an hour and asked if she minded calling upstairs and checking in for me… of course…and please do come…

Honestly, memory care can be difficult somedays, and God knows that so he shows me miracles of open mouths and outstretched hands for communion and lips singing with eyes closed.

Please pray for the Celebration of Life service I was asked to officiate next Wednesday. Many have outlived all friends or family or are never visited. I refuse to let folks die alone.
