You Are A Herald

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

“Hello, my name is Herald”

…and that is your God-given name and occupation too, assuming you have come to believe that Jesus Christ is the Monarch of all things in heaven and on earth and under the earth.

That’s a good name.

“Herald, the no-longer-dirty-dog” (1 Timothy 2:7, 1 John 1:7-9, Matthew 15:27)

As I have been working on our 501(c)3 status I have been tasked to put into words what our mission is and what we do….

We are a Sacrament, which is to say, an external visible expression of an internal invisible grace. The Church, in all her forms, is a Sacrament…she is the visible representation of Emmanuel…God-among-us.

Feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, binding up the broken-hearted, proclaiming releases for the captives, healing the sick, announcing the coming of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Our whole lives are to proclaim it.

We can’t have two names in the Kingdom.

You are a Herald. Live out your name in all you do

Service

Beautiful day today. Emmy Lou came and helped Bryan and I pack the lunches (shoutout Lisa for making all 100 sandwiches this morning and Bryan for grabbing the rest of the food yesterday).

The rain largely held off, as it always does. “Miss”, aka “Mrs. Wonderul”  was the only one there when we got downtown, but slowly people trickled in. The Curt and Jen Brey came along with their daughter, Sarah, as did Chichi, and Andrew and Mrs. Jacbos, who made soup and brought dessert.

We had a few regulars join us too like Gabriel (who said he didn't want any food but just wanted to hear the preaching), Liz, Al, Willie, Charles, Jessica and Chino (at the end). Johanna, Thomas' stepdaugher, came by for the first time since his death. She said it was really hard for her because she got baptized here with him. She received prayer from Chichi and Jen Bray, and said she'll try to be back next week. It was good to see her. (Bryan gave her the photo collage he made of her dad. She was deeply moved)

Bryan gave the message about his time in Ukraine and dedicating his life to Ukraine. He brought Ukrainian chocolates that were sent back from our Ukrainian friends  as a gift for praying. We prayed for one another for healing. A couple, Lewis and Cheryl, shared how they got an apartment from Mercy house but have no furniture, just an air mattress. If anyone knows of programs that give away furniture, let me know.

We served lunch out of the van because it was wet. The spirit fell.

Have a great week!

Kenny
