“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25
We pulled up to find a rally advocating for The Hartford Public Schools on the front steps of City Hall…. so we just took a few steps over to the left and set up on the grass.
It’s been said that if you are a perfectionist or have control issues then Street Church will really allow God to work on you. It’s so true! We are constantly reminded to release control to the Lord, much like the apostles had to. Even though our church has no physical walls, in our humanness we build mental walls and contain God.
We are not built on sand, or agendas, or normalcy. We are build on Christ.
Let’s learn to trust him more and more. He can use anything and any place.

The day started off bumpy with our printer not working. As is always the case we smile when things don’t work knowing God has something up his sleeve.
Crystal met us at storage with Mark and Terry Diaz from 180 Life. Geoff came too and the team packed up in record time.
We pulled up to a rally on the front steps of City Hall advocating for educational concerns. We moved onto the green next to city hall. It was an easy move. Without bulletins we passed out Bibles to everyone and taught most how to navigate the book. I preached expository from James on not showing favoritism. It was a stunning sight watching everyone, I mean everyone reading and following in the Bible. People helped each other out finding passages without condemnation for “loosing the sword drill”…let the reader understand.
Then the mic started acting up but Charlie was a hero with extra batteries he “happened to have” in his backpack. “These are heavy duty! I got 20 of them for $1.25”…and they worked… another miracle!
The team was big and beautiful and The Peace was there by the truckload. I stood silently, encircled by people and love and The Spirit as the communion line connected to the lunch line which turned into the underwear line…I marvel at what God continues to do in, through, and for us…. What an honor to do this with you all.
On a parting note;
Geoff Griddly was at a biker church in New London last week. Geoff shared about Street Church and the pastor asked if that was the church meeting on the front steps of City Hall in Hartford… yes, Geoff told him…
He replied “I hear they are doing really good work”
I agree, you are. You are making Jesus famous and healing many. Your faith is being made known across the state, the nation, and the world.
..from the Community Churches…
God will always honor the one who returns to a difficult place. This was the case for me as last meeting I unfortunately had a difficult time with a staff member who was being very disrespectful of the residents worship and me personally. She doubted and mocked our faith in Jesus.
I have been harassed many times for my faith and I promise it was not because I was being a jerk…. but if you mess with a sheep of the flock, the staff and rod will come out. So I prayed and went back this month. The residents sang and blessed me and praised Jesus..I was given flowers from a staff member… and Jesus was among us in all his peace and glory.
Today Mary, Elieen and I were at River Ridge. I was met in the parking lot with “Bryan, they are expecting a 9/11 Memorial Service!” I was asked to mention it today and pray but was not asked to have a whole vigil… but sure enough the room was filled with twice the number of regulars and folks I have seen there but never in church with us.
So I closed my eyes and prayed into their lives, lives who never expected to reach this age with the world the way it is. And we sang songs of God that spoke of hope and valor and courage, timeless characteristics that they held dear.
…and the Spirit fell in a marvelous way… I know, I always say that but He does. And I preached on Jesus asking Peter who he thought he was… because it’s really important to get that right… and it is for us too. If he was and is God, everything will be ok. Then we had communion and sang some more and a man asked me to sing
I come to the Garden and he just wept, all 90 years of him… “my mother would sing that song to me”… it was his first time with us…and hopefully not his last.
